adidas Gazelle 2

adidas Gazelle 2

ART NUMBER: 034578

MADE ON: -/92

The Gazelle 2 is one of the most instantly recognisable silhouettes in the sneaker world fraternity, and most of us will have probably owned a pair over the years, simply for it’s a classic “goes with anything” wear-ability. Being a slightly chunkier version of its 70’s predecessor, the Gazelle 2 has gone through infinite colourway versions throughout its seemingly constant appearance on the adidas roll outs.

Initially marketed as a football training shoe, it was quickly adopted as a fashion accessory, and they were more likely to be found on the football terraces than a kit bag, and beyond there to the masses. It’s a very comfortable shoe despite its minimalist shape and construction. The support is there for the wearer to have a pair on all day with no issues, which probably harks back to its roots as performance footwear.

The version pictured here in rather rare and desirable purple suede, from 1992 (Made in China), complimented with the classic white stripes keeps the design strikingly simple. Originally made in Germany, there were other pairs made in the Far East and also Canada.

The favoured colourways are the simplest surprisingly, all with white stripes and accents. Blue, Red, Green, Purple & Pink are the ones to go for. The Gazelle has the ability to look good with jeans or cords without the wearer even trying, especially with the kaleidoscope of colours being available, they can be tailored to match almost any outfit. A true design classic!
