Late last year PUMA hooked up with Parisian brand BWGH (Brooklyn We Go Hard) and released the Bluefield R698, the shoe went on to be one of the most popular of the year and still remains in high demand presently. That was just the start of drops to come between the two brands, as during 2014 they released a total of 10 shoes and a clothing range.
The 10 shoes released this year were based on two models; the XS850 and this XS698. This is a new hybrid model which was developed as a combination of the Trinomic R698 and XS850 shoes. It was the first time that a new model had been created for a collaborative shoe and it will be interesting to see if the model gets used for general releases in the future.
The colour blocking used on the majority of the shoes followed a similar scheme to the Bluefield’s from last year. This colourway was called Madder Brown, which was also used on the accompanying XS850 model. The shoe features a two tone nubuck upper construction with a mesh toe-box and a terry towelling formstripe. A thick leather lines the interior, with an off-white Trinomic midsole and gum outsole.
PUMA and BWGH look to be a joining of brands that work together effortlessly and so far their collaborative relationship has paid off positively for the both of them. They’ve brought out simple and well put together shoes in premium materials. They’ve also developed a new hybrid model and opened the eyes of many to shoes that they were previously unaware of. The collaboration looks set to continue for 2015 as they work on other new shoes which will be sure to go down just as well.
